Jeff Currie
Co-Chair, Abbax Exchange at Veteran Commodities Market Expert
Keynote

Profile

Jeff Currie is one of the most recognised and closely followed commodities analysts in the world. He spent nearly three decades at Goldman Sachs, where he built and led the bank's global commodities research division, becoming a Partner in 2008 and one of Wall Street's most quoted voices on oil, metals and energy markets.

From 2024 to 2026, Currie served as Chief Strategy Officer of Energy Pathways at The Carlyle Group, where he focused on commodity market trends and investment opportunities across energy markets. He continues to serve as a Senior Advisor to the firm.

In May 2026, he was appointed Executive Co-Chairman of Abaxx Markets, where he supports the development of global commodity markets and contributes regular market research and commentary. He also serves as Senior Advisor to the boards of Abaxx Exchange and Abaxx Clearing.

Jeff has a track record of making early, high-conviction calls that have moved markets. He correctly forecast the commodity supercycle of the 2000s and oil above $100 a barrel. He called oil's "lower for longer" trajectory during the US shale revolution. He identified a new commodities supercycle in late 2020, coined "the revenge of the old economy".

Jeff is a regular and sought-after presence on Bloomberg Television and CNBC, appearing frequently across flagship programmes including Squawk Box, The Exchange, Closing Bell Overtime and Squawk on the Street, as well as Bloomberg's Surveillance and The Pulse with Francine Lacqua.

Jeff holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Chicago and is Chair of the Advisory Group at the University of Chicago's Energy Policy Institute (EPIC).
