Gavin is an Associate Lecturer at the Liverpool Centre for Advanced Policing (LCAP), Liverpool John Moores University and the College of Policing with over 30 years policing experience as a police officer. Since retiring he has worked as university lecturer, independent researcher and consultant working on policing projects in Afghanistan, Iraq and Ireland. As an associate at the College of Policing he assesses senior officers completing Direct Entry programmes and Strategic leadership modules. His research publications include police accountability and mission creep, policing in periods of conflict, policing with the community and Transnational Policing. His current research interests are focused upon the experience of police officers and the development of policing during a period of conflict and terrorism, and the role and capability of the Police Ombudsman as a means to investigate the legacy of conflict.
