Carsten Middendorf is chief investment officer of Allianz X, the strategic investment arm of the Allianz Group. He leads the investment team and is one of three members of the Allianz X leadership team. Allianz X holds 25 direct investments worldwide. It focuses on growth companies with differentiated technology in insurance, wealth management, and financial services.

Carsten joined Allianz in 2016 as a senior venture manager at Allianz Ventures. The unit evolved into Allianz X and he became the investment director in 2017 and CIO in 2020. He serves on the boards of several portfolio companies.

Before Allianz, Carsten spent six years with The Advisory House, a European boutique consultancy, as an engagement manager. He led projects for international utilities, technology companies, and industrial groups.

Carsten holds a Diplom-Kaufmann (master's equivalent) from the Technical University of Munich, with a major in entrepreneurial finance and a minor in mechanical engineering.
