Marco Weinberg, PhD, is currently Senior Vice President and Head of Research at ReCode Therapeutics. He has held research leadership roles in preclinical and discovery research at AskBio, CSL Behring and Vertex Pharmaceuticals. At Vertex he led early development on separate collaborations with Moderna Therapeutics and CRISPR Therapeutics applying mRNA replacement and CRISPR gene editing tools for the treatment of cystic fibrosis. Prior to industry, Marco was a member of faculty at Scripps Research, La Jolla, and at the Witwatersrand University, South Africa. His research expertise and career has focused on the therapeutic development of RNA therapies and gene editing modalities applying both viral and non-viral delivery strategies. He has over 70 published papers and 11 patents. Marco holds a PhD from the University of the Witwatersrand and completed postdocs at the City of Hope Medical Center, California and the University of Oxford, UK.
