The global biofuels industry in the first half of calendar year 2018 will once again be safe from supply-side shocks on the feedstock markets, current projections show. At the same time, 2018 could bring key changes with regards to long-term biofuel targets in the European Union and Brazil, while the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) in the United States may come under attack again.
Feedstocks and fossil energy values – no bull markets on the cards
The 2017/18 balances for the individual feedstocks are no cause for alarm for the biofuel sector, but it is much too early to project another bear market for 2018/19. The 2017/18 season has brought a record wheat harvest in Russia and above average results in Argentina, the EU and Ukraine.
