Krists Mertens currently leads decarbonization and energy projects in Latvia’s main building materials company SCHWENK Latvija. Within next five years Company’s goal is to launch carbon capture technologies in Broceni cement plant, Latvia, thus taking active and leading role in achieving climate neutrality. He is actively involved in building new partnerships and networks for development of a new CO2 value chain including transportation, storage and utilization as it is a crucial part of successful transition to green economy. Before joining SCHWENK Latvija, Krists Mertens has gained extensive experience in energy sector, leading one of the largest energy companies in Latvia.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in engineering economics from Riga Technical University, an MBA from Riga Business School and is part of BICG – Baltic Institute of Corporate Governance.
