Alfa Laval

Profile

First stage clarification remains a critical step in biomanufacturing, particularly as upstream processes drive higher cell densities and increased solids content. Many production facilities still rely on depth‑filtration trains, which are ineffective and face limitations in scalability, operational robustness, and consumable usage.

In this talk, we’ll introduce centrifugal clarification from the ground up and address a common market misconception: why area-equivalent performance matters more than g‑force.

We’ll present Alfa Laval’s single-use centrifuge platform, CultureOne, and close with a real-world mAb case study (customer undisclosed) where switching from depth filtration to single-use centrifugation improved clarification yield, reduced batch variability, lowered reliance on disposable filters, and simplified operations - supporting scalable, efficient, and more sustainable bioprocessing.
