Gargi Roy M.Sc.Associate Director, BioPharmaceuticals Development at AstraZenecaSpeaker
Profile
Gargi earned her master’s degree in Zoology from the University of Calcutta, India. She embarked on her academic journey at UTMB in Galveston, TX, delving into DNA repair mechanisms under the mentorship of Professor Dr. Sankar Mitra. Transitioning to professional roles, she honed her expertise as a Patent Examiner at the US Patent Office before joining MedImmune, now AstraZeneca. Gargi has made significant contributions to the realm of mammalian protein expression, unfolded protein response, and the development of high-yielding host platforms for the incorporation of non-natural amino acids into protein sequences, facilitating site-specific conjugation of payloads for antibody drug conjugates. More recently, she leveraged her understanding of DNA repair mechanisms and experience in cell line development to carve out a unique niche for engineering stem cells to generate clinical grade hypoimmunogenic human stem cells (hSCs) for applications in cell therapy.
