Mike Collins has an extensive background in filtration in a wide range of industries, spanning 30 plus years with Pall Corporation and now Cytiva. Mike’s journey started in Portsmouth, England, through an apprenticeship in mechanical engineering whilst studying for a Higher National Diploma in Mechanical and Production engineering.
Mike’s career development transitioned through various technical roles spanning and industry fields including hydraulics, aerospace, electronics, water, power generation and food and beverage industries, before moving into Biotechnology in 2008. Roles included scientific laboratory services, technical support, applications development, systems engineering and research and development. These roles became increasingly customer and application focused, keeping in step with trends and culture within drug manufacturing processes. This extensive and varied experience has enabled Mike to bring a unique perspective to filtration within the biotechnology field.
Mike moved to the US in 2010 and is based at Cytiva in Westborough, Massachusetts. Here he leads a global team of engineers and scientists working on development of filtration solutions for antibody-based therapies, and newer modalities such as viral vectors and mRNA in the rapidly developing field of genomic medicine. Mike’s role also includes leading filtration activity with key accounts, covering depth, TFF, virus and sterile filtration.
