Profile

Simone Canestrari holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Medical and Pharmaceutical Biotechnology from Florence. With over 11 years of experience in the biologics field, his career started in regenerative medicine and proceeded to biopharmaceutical development where he specialised. He began his scientific journey at University College London, where he worked on advanced regenerative medicine strategies, focusing on the implementation of decellularized bio scaffolds as physiologically relevant 3D models for drug testing. He later transitioned into the biopharmaceutical industry, specializing in upstream process development for monoclonal antibodies production, where He covered the workflow from cell line development and selection through to process optimization at bench scale, including systems such as Ambr 250 platforms, wave bioreactors, and 10L stirred-tank bioreactors. Currently, Simone is part of Pfanstiehl, where he is focused on expanding the application of ultra-pure excipients beyond traditional downstream use. His work explores their strategic integration into upstream processes, particularly in media and feed design, to enhance cell culture performance, productivity, and product quality.
