Jan Brooke is a freelance environmental advisor working with the ports, dredging and navigation sector. As a specialist in water management and nature conservation issues, Jan assists port and harbour authorities and navigation organisations in understanding environmental requirements in relation to compliance, licensing and consenting issues. She has extensive experience in the environmental implications of on-going activities such as maintenance dredging and disposal, and in preparing or contributing to environmental impact assessments and associated investigations and appraisals for new development proposals.
In Europe, Jan participates in several initiatives which aim to help ports ensure compliance with legislation such as the EU Birds, Habitats and Water Framework Directives. At the international level through her involvement as the UK representative on the Environmental Commission of the World Association for Waterborne Transport Infrastructure (PIANC), she works alongside port managers and environmental specialists from around the world to prepare internationally-relevant technical guidance documents.
