Ralph is principal of McLachlan+Tiffin, chartered accountants and registered auditors. The practice has a wide range of clients and Ralph deals mainly with the larger audit clients.

Ralph also acts as a consultant to many companies in the UK and overseas on subjects ranging from project appraisal, budgetary control systems through to fraud prevention. He acts as training consultant to several shipping and ship management companies. With his background in engineering Ralph spends approx one third of his time lecturing on accounting topics, often related to engineering - project appraisal and management issues. This lecturing is in the UK with the IOD, ICAS, IChemE, CCH, Croner, Informa and in house clients.

Approx 12 weeks a year is spent on lecturing and consultancy on similar topics in the Middle and Far East. He is author of a range of texts on project appraisal, accounting, IFRS and auditing. All are texts aimed at understanding and the practical implementation of techniques for better business management. Ralph has been a public member of Network Rail since its inception and has just been reappointed for a further three years.

Finally he serves on the board of Claverhouse group, Dundee, a charity concerned with the training of the unemployed and their return to active work.
