Development Road: Iraq launches unit to oversee $17 billion rail link with Turkey
Iraq's Ministry of Transport spokesperson, Shada Radi, disclosed on Monday that Iraq has initiated a dedicated unit to manage the implementation of the Development Road project. This ambitious undertaking, valued at $17 billion, aims to establish rail and road connections between Iraq and neighboring Turkey. The project envisions a vast transportation network extending from the under-construction Faw Port in the southern region of Iraq all the way to the Turkish border.
The primary objective of the Development Road project, as stated by Radi, is to enhance economic cooperation among Iraq, Turkey, and Europe. Early actions have already been taken, including conducting soil surveys to determine the most suitable routes for the rail and road links. Additionally, the ministry has set up a project headquarters to closely oversee the execution of the project.
This newly established office will also take the responsibility of reaching out to Gulf nations and other countries to explore potential contributions to realizing the project. By facilitating better transportation between Iraq and Turkey, the Development Road project is expected to strengthen trade relations between the two countries and create opportunities for trade and investment with Europe and other regions.
