Dr. Sonia S. Hassan, M.D., MBA, is Associate Vice-President at Wayne State University, Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Maternal-Fetal Medicine, and Founding Director of the Office of Women's Health. She leads the SOS Maternity Network, a statewide collaborative advancing evidence-based approaches to reduce preeclampsia and preterm birth across Michigan. An internationally recognized physician-scientist, Dr. Hassan has authored more than 400 publications and led groundbreaking research that demonstrated an intervention to reduce preterm birth by 45%. She and others globally have implemented the results of this trial, resulting in a change in practice guidelines and reduction in preterm birth. Her leadership in maternal and infant health has earned numerous honors, and she serves on several prominent nonprofit and civic boards while continuing to advance health equity and innovation through research, clinical care, and public service.
