John Barnes, CPM, MBA, 340B ACEAssociate Vice President Contract Services, 340B PVP at Apexus
John Barnes is Associate Vice-President of Contract Services for Apexus, the HRSA 340B Prime Vendor. He has 34 years of experience in health care procurement, providing expertise in the pharmaceutical, medical, surgical, and capital supply chains. In his current role, he develops market-competitive contracts for branded and generic pharmaceuticals for more than 42,000 340B hospitals and clinics enrolled in the 340B Prime Vendor Program (PVP). Mr Barnes has extensive experience in the US pharmaceutical industry, employing analytics and data management for designing and evaluating pricing strategies, developing financial models and understanding drug pricing data sources as they relate to the 340B Drug Pricing Program. He has helped Apexus to become the nation's leader in creating reliable health care solutions by enhancing access to medications and improving patient care and outcomes through innovative ambulatory pharmacy solutions and support of compliant 340B programs.
Mr. Barnes began his career at Kaiser Permanente in California. He moved to Texas and worked at Baylor Hospital. For 15 years, Mr Barnes served at Parkland Health and Hospital System in multiple business units, ranging from inventory management to purchasing, value analysis, and pharmacy. He served as chairman for the product review and standardization committee and facilitated the medical capital technology assessment committee.
Mr. Barnes is a certified purchasing manager (CPM) through the Institute for Supply Management. He earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Northwood University and obtained a master of business administration degree from Northwood University’s Richard DeVos Graduate School of Management.
