Aurelio started his career at Fondo Interbancario di Tutela dei Depositi (FITD) in 2000, as Bank analyst and Economist.

In 2002, he joined UniCredit as an economist and concluded that stint as Chief European Economist in 2009. From 2009 to 2019 he covered senior positions in Group functions, such as Head of Strategic Planning, Head of Group Risk Strategies & Monitoring and Head of Group Regulatory Affairs.

In 2020 he was appointed Group Chief Lending Officer and a year and a half later he took the role of Head of Group Credit Risk overseeing the governance, management, steering and monitoring of the credit risk at Group level. In 2023 he was tasked with the oversight of Risk Italy activities and since September 2024, as Deputy Head of Group Risk Management, Aurelio has been supporting the Head of Group Risk Management in overseeing GRM activities.

On behalf of UniCredit he has covered non-executive directorships in various Boards of Directors and Supervisory Boards. He is currently Vice Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Bank Austria - where he chairs the Audit Committee too - and sits in the Board of Directors of the Fondo Interbancario di Tutela dei Depositi (FITD).

Effective as of June 3rd 2025, Aurelio is Group Chief Risk Officer.
