Banafsheh has been the Director of Internal Audit since February 1, 2024. Prior to this, she led the Division in the Directorate General Universal and Diversified Institution from September 2021, where she was responsible for overseeing the supervisory oversight of a portfolio of significant banking institutions. She began her journey at the Single Supervisory Mechanism (SSM) in 2020 as an Adviser in the Stress Test Experts Division within the Directorate General Horizontal Line Supervision.

Earlier in her career, Banafsheh was the European Co-Head of BlackRock’s Official Institutions advisory business. Her diverse experience includes senior roles in management, advisory, and investment banking with leading firms such as Alvarez & Marsal, Fortress Investment Group, and Morgan Stanley. At both BlackRock and Alvarez & Marsal, she gained valuable expertise in managing large-scale projects, audits, and investigation standards.

Banafsheh is also experienced in leading teams, chairing international projects, and working with committees. She brings an international and intercultural perspective to her work, honed through her interactions on diverse projects.

She holds multiple Master’s degrees in business administration from the European Business School Oestrich-Winkel (EBS), California State University, and ITESM in Mexico.
