Derek is the Head of the UK Prudential Regulation Authority’s Market and Counterparty Credit Risk policy team. His team is responsible for the development of rules on capital requirements for market risk, counterparty credit risk, and interest rate risk in the banking book. He currently chairs the Basel Committee’s Market Risk Group, having previously chaired the Committee’s Supervision and Implementation Group Trading Book Task Force from 2015-2016.
Prior to joining the UK Financial Services Authority (the predecessor of the PRA) in 2009, Derek worked as a derivatives valuation expert for a range of consulting firms.
Derek holds an MSc in Mathematics from the University of Warwick (UK) and is a Chartered Accountant, Chartered Mathematician, and Chartered Scientist.
