Derek is the Technical Head of Division for banking policy in the UK Prudential Regulation Authority’s Prudential Policy Directorate. He represents the Prudential Regulation Authority on the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision’s (BCBS) Policy and Standards Group and chaired the BCBS Market Risk Group between 2016 and 2022 - the period when it finalised the Basel 3.1 market risk and CVA risk standards.

Prior to joining the UK Financial Services Authority (the predecessor of the PRA) in 2009, Derek worked as a derivatives valuation expert for a range of consulting firms.

Derek holds an MSc in Mathematics from the University of Warwick (UK) and is a Chartered Accountant, Chartered Mathematician, and Chartered Scientist.
