Joao Santos is a risk leader with more than two decades across insurers and banks currently serving as Risk & Capital Strategic Advisor at Fidelidade. Mandated by the Board to modernise risk governance and strengthen balance-sheet resilience, he is shaping ALM and liquidity models, disciplined capital management, and an integrated risk policy suite aligned to Solvency II.

Previously, Joao was Chief Risk Officer at Athora Ireland, advising the Board and strengthening ORSA, balance-sheet stability, and investment governance across public and private assets. He advanced the sustainability agenda and automated tooling for liquidity, ALM, and economic capital. Earlier at Aviva, he led Hedging & ALM, Credit Risk internal model development (IMAP), and Financial Risk ahead of Solvency II. His early career included risk and ALM roles at Barclays, Lehman Brothers, and Morgan Stanley.

Joao holds a Master in European Business from ESCP and a Business degree from UTAD. He co-founded GARP Portugal.
