João Santos is a risk leader with more than two decades across insurers and banks currently serving as MD Risk Management at Fidelidade. He leads the Group Risk function to support disciplined growth, stronger governance and IPO readiness by strengthening Board and ExCo oversight across solvency, capital, ALM, liquidity and ORSA, while embedding a more forward looking, business oriented risk function and reinforcing risk culture across the Group.

Previously, João was Chief Risk Officer at Athora Ireland, advising the Board and strengthening ORSA, balance-sheet resilience, and investment governance across public and private assets. He advanced sustainability and automated tooling for liquidity, ALM, and economic capital. Earlier at Aviva, he led Hedging & ALM, Credit Risk internal model development (IMAP), and Financial Risk ahead of Solvency II. His early career included risk and ALM roles at Barclays, Lehman Brothers, and Morgan Stanley.

João holds a Master in European Business from ESCP and a Business degree from UTAD. He co-founded GARP Portugal.
