Katie has over 30 years experience working in complex and challenging public sector environments – the custodial settings of His Majesty's Prison & Probation Service (HMPPS) and the Ministry of Justice. Joining the prison service in 1991 she has worked at all operational grades within the sector including the last 5 years of her service leading as the Governor of complex, challenging adult male prisons – the last being 2 years as the Governor of HMP Wandsworth.

During her service she has worked in 9 public sector prisons including the female, young people and adult male remand and sentenced estates. She has also had the rare experience of being chosen to be the prison advisor to the Prisons Minister, working closely with ministers and advisors to support prison improvements.

Since leaving the service this year she has continued her drive to make improvements across the sector and as a result is now working with many charities and third sector organisations to support the work they do with and for prisons. Alongside this she has recently started a risk solutions business in which she uses her wealth of crisis and risk management skills developed over her extensive time working in and leading prisons to support organisations outside of the criminal justice sector with their ability to anticipate the unexpected and manage risk more effectively at all levels of their business.
