Lucy da Piedade has worked in global financial services since 2005 when she joined Barclays Bank from tax and risk advisory consulting and external audit practice at Deloitte and KPMG. She is currently the Head of the Group Controls Office at Deutsche Bank with accountability for setting and monitoring the controls framework for managing all non-financial risks globally in the first line of defence. Prior to this role she held a number of senior leadership roles at Barclays Bank in Risk Management, Operations and Technology and Transformation. She has extensive executive committee, governance and risk management experience across all risk types including Conduct, Data, Technology, Privacy and Resilience Risk in a highly regulated sector.
She trained as a lawyer in South Africa and in the UK and began her career in commercial legal practice. Lucy holds a Master of Law degree from Exeter University and an Executive MBA from the University of the Witwatersrand. She serves as a lay member of the Court Renumeration Committee and Audit and Risk Committee at Heriot Watt University. She is fluent in five languages and she is a passionate advocate for diversity of thought and the importance of culture in effective risk management.
