Olli Castren is Head of Economics and Impact Assessment at the European Banking Authority (EBA) in Paris. He is responsible for financial sector research, model development and analytical impact assessments of new regulations under the EBA’s mandates, including Basel III as well as European Directives for Investment Firms, Sustainable Finance and Digital/Crypto Assets. Prior to joining the EBA he worked for more than a decade in managerial positions at the European Central Bank, including leading roles in the financial crisis missions to Greece, Portugal and Ireland in 2009-11, and almost a decade as chief economist/strategist in global hedge funds in Geneva and in London. Olli has a PhD from University of Warwick, UK, and has published in the areas of regulatory boundaries, stablecoins, monetary and fiscal policy, asset pricing, stress testing, financial crisis modelling and financial network analysis.
