Rick has recently retired from his last full time executive role. His working career since 1984 has been spent primarily in the investment management industry, firstly at County Natwest/Gartmore, in quantitative research and portfolio management and since 2000 at State Street where he was Global Chief Investment Officer from October 2008 until April 2021 responsible for all investment activity of approximately USD3.6tr and most recently led State Street’s corporate positioning on ESG. During his career he has been an active member and leader of trade associations, index committees and academic partnerships bringing practitioner perspectives to research and policy issues and consulting with central banks and policy-makers. He has been active in both specialist media such as Bloomberg and mainstream. State Street’s clients held significant positions in most medium and large companies globally and Rick was actively engaged with their Boards where there were particularly sensitive corporate governance issues that could impact long term shareholder value. He is Chair of the Investment Leaders Group of the Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership and a member of the FTSE Sustainability Committee.
