Rosamund de Sybel leads the geopolitical, geoeconomic and defence advisory service of the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS), a global research organisation and a world-leading authority on security, political risk and military conflict. Before joining IISS, Rosamund was Head of Geopolitical Risk, Financial Crime Compliance, at a unit of the world’s largest bank by assets, where she led analysis of the interplay of geopolitical and financial crime risks in order to mitigate against increasingly complex and multi-faceted threats. She was formerly a director at a US-headquartered due-diligence and investigations firm, and held the position of Editor/Economist Middle East & Africa at a global research firm. She was also editor of a Middle East business and economics journal, and helped to launch the geo-economics programme for the IISS. She has a first-class degree from King’s College London, having spent an exchange year at the University of California, Los Angeles
