Profile

Urmi joined Thermo Fisher Scientific in June 2021 as President of Europe, Middle East and Africa, based in Germany. Her focus is to provide enterprise solutions with the breadth and depth of Thermo Fisher’s value proposition to internal and external stakeholders, whilst driving sustainable growth through deliberate prioritization and effective collaboration across the EMEA region and company. Prior to joining Thermo Fisher, Urmi was Global Head of Healthcare at Linde for several years. Previous roles have included VP International at Foundation Medicine (Roche), and senior positions in business development and strategy for Novartis, Immucor, Chiron and G.D. Searle.

A global executive with 20+ years of experience in conception to realization of business plans and commercial operations, in the areas of biotechnology and healthcare. Urmi has industry experience in molecular diagnostics, cancer genomics, infectious diseases, point of care and medical devices, clinical laboratory testing and respiratory care. She exhibits leadership experience in strategic planning, business development, product commercialization and new market expansion throughout EMEA, Asia, and South America.

Having studied and worked in over half a dozen countries, these experiences strengthen her ability to lead global and cross-functional project teams. Urmi has a deep understanding of healthcare markets and driving sustainable growth in emerging markets, including change through policy and public affairs. She provides a proven track record in translating innovation into business results. As market and customer demands evolve, Urmi demonstrates reliable and visible leadership in transformational times, embracing cultural evolution to build alliances and mobilize partners for success.

Urmi has an MBA from Thunderbird School of Global Management, an MS in Biochemical Engineering from the University of Houston, a BA in Biology and French from Rutgers University, and an International Baccalaureate Diploma from the American School of Paris. She is fluent in English, French and Hindi, and conversational in Spanish, German and Bengali.
