Sustainability at BIO-Europe

We are committed to running events which are both environmentally sustainable and socially responsible. Learn more about our sustainability efforts and the steps you can take to make a difference below.

Proud supporter of Action Medical Research

At BIO-Europe, we are donating 1 euro for every 20 partneringONE® meeting request responses during the event to Action Medical Research.

Action Medical Research is the leading UK-wide charity dedicated to saving and changing children’s lives through medical research.

They fund a wide range of cutting-edge research most likely to deliver real benefit to babies, children and young people. With your help, they can raise funds to make vital research possible. Thousands of families are coping with the challenge of caring for children with rare and devastating diseases for which there are no cures.

Responding to your meeting requests isn't just polite—it has impact!

Better Stands Program

We are moving away from the use of disposable, single-use stands which account for vast percentages of the waste generated at events. We ask exhibitors to follow our Better Stands program and thus improve the ease, quality, safety and sustainability of the exhibition experience for all delegates. We also encourage them to minimize handouts and collateral brought or shipped to the event.

Venue and Materials

The venues we work with operate in line with the UN’s 2030 Agenda on Sustainable Development Goals with a focus on social, environmental and business sustainability. This includes how they source their energy, how they dispose of waste, and how they work with vendors.

We select venues that are accessible by public transport, Where possible, we work closely with local authorities to provide easy access to the local networks.

Paper-only name badges without plastic holders are used at the event. Both badges and lanyards will be collected and fully recycled post-event. Paper use is kept to a minimum through use of the partneringONE app and informational QR codes.

Food and Beverage

We aim to offer a delicious, healthy and sustainable menu to our delegates. We work with local caterers to source local, seasonal produce. Our menus offer plant-based options and we plan our orders to avoid prepared food being wasted. Any surplus food and waste generated during the event is either donated or disposed of through environmentally responsible methods. Chinaware and cutlery are always our preference and, in case of disposables, we have switched to fully biodegradable materials.

Agenda Sessions

We aim to aim to reflect the diversity of the biotech industry through our content topics, speaker selection and company opportunities. We especially focus on opportunities for young companies through initiatives such as the Young Innovator program and the Startup Spotlight competition.

DIVERSITY, EQUITY AND INCLUSION AT BIO-Europe

Our mission is to give our customers and our wider communities access to extraordinary people and diverse insights.

Through our live and online events, we cultivate connections, provide meaningful content, and celebrate authenticity. We strive to create a safe and transparent environment where unique perspectives and all ideas can be shared and acknowledged.

From dietary requests to provision of space for prayer and parents, we work to reflect and support the diversity of our audience.

FASTERFORWARD TO ZERO

FasterForward is BIO-Europe's approach to sustainability — moving faster to become a zero waste and net zero carbon business.

A series of activities and commitments carried out by Informa and its partners between 2020-2025 will ensure our events continue to become more sustainable, delivering a truly positive impact to the markets we serve. We will also actively help our partners, customers, and wider markets to achieve the same. Our FasterForward commitments include:

  • Enable one million disconnected people to access networks and knowledge by 2025
  • Become carbon neutral across our events by 2025
  • Halve the waste generated through our events by 2025
  • Embed sustainability inside 100% of our events by 2025
