Thomas Zink is Research Director for IDC Financial Insights and leads IDC’s European financial services research. Thomas core research coverage includes digital transformation in banking, retail payments, global transaction banking and wealth management. His key focus for the next year is on Open Banking and the emergence of an interconnected, collaborative, and accelerated ecosystem. This spans dealing with new regulations such as PSD2, readying legacy infrastructure and systems for the open API challenge, identifying and managing third party risks, new operating models such as banking as a platform, the super backoffice, etc. Another key focus will be around the rise of machine intelligence and its impact on workflow automation, contact centre and web chat automation, robo advisory, and business intelligence.
For almost a decade Thomas has covered financial services in the Asia Pacific region for IDC and other research houses, before relocating to IDC Europe in 2016. Highlights of his work at IDC Asia Pacific include consulting engagements with financial institutions and IT vendors spanning go-to-market strategy, market sizing, technology roadmaps, vendor selection, RFPs, and feasibility studies to assess joint ventures.
Before that, Thomas was the content lead for Timetric in Asia Pacific serving as Asia correspondent for a series of trade publications including Private Banker International, Retail Banker International, and Cards International. During this time, he also built the research capability in Singapore focused primarily on wealth management research in Europe and Asia. Prior to that, Thomas led the retail banking research at The Asian Banker.
