Elliott Star is a data science leader with over a decade of experience across multiple facets of the field. He has worked for a number of startups and public companies of various sizes across his career, and seen multiple high value exits for private companies. Across his career he has experience both as technical individual contributor and as an organizational leader, covering not just data science but also data engineering, machine learning engineering, analytics, data product management, and forecasting disciplines.

His work leading data science efforts for health and safety at Twitter put the company on the front page of the New York Times in mid 2018 for what was (at the time) the single largest cleanup of fake/synthetic accounts across the entirety of Twitter (and potentially all social media) https://www.nytimes.com/2018/07/11/technology/twitter-fake-followers.html.

Most recently, Elliott lead all Data Science and Machine Learning (DSML) efforts for the unicorn neo-bank Chime over the last 2+ years, helping to build the team from just a handful of ICs to an organization over 20 engineers-strong, comprising dozens of the company’s production ML models.

He is currently in the process of planning a wedding for late June 2023, and also renovating his house, so if he looks a bit frazzled, that’s why ;-)
