Alta Semper are a healthcare and consumer-focussed private equity fund active across Africa founded by Afsane Jetha, Mr Richard Parsons (Former CEO of Time Warner) and The Estée Lauder Family in 2015. Alta Semper’s thesis is to invest strategic and flexible capital into control-oriented sector plays where we have strong conviction. We look to both return strong financial returns as well as advance health equity in the markets in which we invest. We have successfully invested (and subsequently exited via an IPO in 2022) in one of Egypt’s largest low-acuity generic pharma companies, have invested in and exited Nigeria’s largest pharmacy chain and remain investors in Morocco’s largest group of cancer-focussed clinics which is increasingly servicing SSA clients. Through the warehoused facility for our Fund II, we have invested in East Africa’s largest online pharmacy which is consolidating bricks and mortar pharmacies in the East African region.

Over the last eight years, Alta Semper has deployed c. US$165m of capital through its first Fund I and co-investment vehicles and are a few months away from closing our second fund. We are one of the most active investors in healthcare in Africa as well as are also top decile in terms of realised returns across the African PE market. We are a seven-person team spread primarily across London, Cairo and Lagos.
