Profile
As the leader of the Material Center for Human Understanding, Collette uses theories and methods from the behavioral and social sciences to develop frameworks and measurement approaches that get at less conscious and emotional drivers of behavior. She consults with internal and external clients, helping them use science to get better insights. She loves mixing theory and application, making complex theories practical and accessible, and using them to address real business challenges. Currently, she is also bringing science and human understanding to create a more inclusive organization as she leads Material’s DEI efforts.
Collette has two decades of experience conducting research. Prior to Material, she was a professor of psychology at Syracuse University, where her research and teaching addressed stereotypes, identity and emotion. Collette received a B.A. in Psychology from Columbia University and a Ph.D. in Social Psychology from the University of California, Santa Barbara.
