Profile

James Ernst, Ph.D., has over 20 years of experience in biomedical research, spanning roles as both a bench scientist and an R&D executive. He is currently Vice Preside of Development and head of Protein Sciences & Technology at Xencor Inc., where he leads programs from molecule discovery into clinical development.

Previously, he held leadership roles in Genentech Research & Early Development (gRED) Protein Sciences, contributing to both large- and small-molecule discovery efforts across oncology, immunotherapy, neuroscience, and metabolic disease.

Dr. Ernst earned his Ph.D. in Biophysical Chemistry from Yale University and completed postdoctoral training at Stanford University School of Medicine. He also serves as Vice President of the Board of Directors of The Antibody Society.
