Shyra Gardai, Ph.D.Executive Director of Immunology at Seattle Genetics
I am the Executive Director of Immunology at Seattle Genetics. I received my Ph.D. from the University of Colorado Health Science Center and performed my postdoctoral training in the laboratory or Dr. Peter Henson at National Jewish Medical Research Center. During my postdoctoral training I originated and developed the concept that CD47 (integrity-associated protein) on viable cells interacts with SIRP-α (SHPS-1) on phagocytes and prevents inadvertent removal of viable cells. After completing my postdoctoral training, I transitioned into industry and spent 6 years at Élan Pharmaceuticals in San Francisco where I directed multiple discovery projects focused on identifying novel targets for the treatment of Multiple Sclerosis and Parkinson’s disease. In my current position at Seattle Genetics, I am focused on identifying new ways to engage and activate the immune system as a means to battle cancer.
