Efficient and Sustainable: Travel to Vienna by Train

Vienna is well-connected to Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Slovenia, Croatia, Germany, Poland, Italy, France, Netherlands and Belgium through Europe's rail network. Enjoy the journey through beautiful landscapes while reducing your carbon footprint and arriving conveniently in the city center.

Vienna’s main airport is Vienna International Airport (IATA: VIE), located southeast just outside of the city.
BY TRAIN
Staying at a city center hotel?
The fastest way to reach the city center is via the City Airport Train / CAT which takes only 16 minutes and departs every half hour. The City Air Terminal in the city center is located just a 10-minute walk from St. Stephen's Cathedral in the Wien Mitte transportation hub.
Tickets are EUR 14,90 and can be bought online, they are valid for 6 months after purchase.
Vienna also has a good local transport network, which includes a direct service to the city center via the commuter trains S7 or REX7.
Going directly to the conference?
The Vienna Congress and Convention Center (VIECON) is easily accessible by taking the S7 or REX7 commuter train to Praterstern, then transferring to the U2 underground line. The nearest underground station for BIO-Europe 2025 is Krieau (Messe Wien)

BY BUS
The Vienna Airport Lines (VAL/Postbus) connect Vienna International Airport with major transportation hubs and departs from the airport bus station just outside the arrival hall.
The fastest way to the Vienna Congress and Convention Center (VIECON) is via the VAL3, which offers an hourly direct service - the nearest stop is Krieau (Messe Wien), which takes you directly to the main entrance for BIO-Europe in only 30 minutes.
VAL2 goes directly to the city center in 20 minutes every 30 minutes, stopping at Morzinplatz and Schwedenplatz.
VAL1 connects the main station (Hauptbahnhof) and Westbahnhof with the airport and runs every 30 minutes. The journey takes around 40 minutes.
Tickets cost EUR 11 and can be bought either online, from the bus driver or at a Vienna Airport Lines ticket machine at the airport.

TAXI
Taxis are available outside the arrivals hall. Travel time is around 30 minutes to the city center or Vienna Congress and Convention Center (VIECON).
Please be aware of individuals approaching passengers in the airport arrivals hall - this is often unauthorized solicitation of business.

Public Transportation Options
Our conference partner hotels are just a short walk from the Vienna Congress and Convention Center (VIECON).
If you are staying in the city centre, the stations Karlplatz and Volkstheater provide a direct service to the conference centre by taking the underground line U2.
For quick and easy purchases, ticket machines are located at every underground station and in trams. These machines accept both cash and card payments, making ticket buying hassle-free. Tickets can also be bought online via the WienMobil App and Online Ticket Shop.
Paper tickets marked with "Bitte entwerten" (Please validate) must be validated at blue machines located at underground station entrances, trams, and buses before the first journey to be considered valid for travel. The validation machines stamp the date and time on the ticket, making it ready for use, while digital tickets purchased through the WienMobil App don't require validation.
Taxis
Taxis will be available in front of Vienna Congress and Convention Center's main entrance.
ADDITIONAL TRANSPORTATION INFORMATION AND BUS SHUTTLE SERVICES
Tuesday
Shuttle bus service will be provided from the conference to the evening reception at the magnificent Hofburg. From the evening reception, a shuttle bus service is available to the Vienna Congress and Convention Center from 21:00 until 23:00. Return buses will head back to the Vienna Congress and Convention Center - our central hub to our conference partner hotels - please check on-site signage for departure times. With the Hofburg conveniently located in the heart of the city, city center hotels are best reached taking an evening stroll through Vienna's vibrant streets or making use of the city's efficient transport network.
Wednesday
When heading back to the airport, make use of Vienna's fantastic public transport network, either by direct bus services or train connections (see 'To and from the airport' above).
