Indigenous Rights and Title: What’s Next?
For decades, the ICBA CEO Breakfast has been a defining tradition and the event that officially kicks off BUILDEX each year. It brings together more than 400 senior leaders from across the construction industry for a timely, high level conversation on the issues that matter most to British Columbia’s economy, workforce, and future. Known for its clarity and substance, the CEO Breakfast sets the tone for the year ahead.
This year’s theme, Indigenous Rights and Title: What’s Next?, focuses on one of the most consequential issues facing British Columbia today. B.C.’s most respected political commentator, Vaughn Palmer, will lead a conversation with Thomas Isaac, partner at Cassels, and Geoffrey Moyse, KC, of Moyse Law, on the evolving landscape of Indigenous rights and title, and the negotiation of modern treaties that can lead to shared prosperity for all British Columbians.
Recent court decisions have placed Indigenous rights and title at the centre of discussions around certainty and clarity, both of which are critical to attracting investment, enabling development, and ensuring British Columbia can compete globally while building a stronger economy. Tom Isaac and Geoff Moyse are among the leading voices shaping the work and conversations in this area, offering valuable insight into where things stand and where they are headed.
ICBA CEO Chris Gardner will deliver his annual outlook for construction for the year ahead and put the discussion on Indigenous Rights and Title into context for the contractors, builders and everyone working in the construction industry.
