Dan Murphy has more than a decade of experience working across the Executive & Legislative branches of the U.S. government, in non-profits, and at international organizations. Dan was the founder of Sunset Park Advisory - a boutique consulting firm serving financial technology firms - which was acquired by Allon Advisors in 2026. Before transitioning to the private sector, Dan served as Open Banking Program Manager at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), where he played a key role in shaping the Personal Financial Data Rights Rule implementing Section 1033 of the Dodd-Frank Act.
Prior to serving at the CFPB, Dan was the Financial Health Network's Policy Manager, where he focused on consumer protection and financial health-related issues, including data privacy, payments, lending, public benefits delivery, and other fintech-related policy issues. Dan previously worked on fintech policy at the Milken Institute Center for Financial Markets and has also held positions on Capitol Hill and at the World Bank. Dan holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Pittsburgh and a Master's in Public Policy from the Hertie School in Berlin, Germany.
Dan also serves on the Steering Committee for the Urban Institute’s Financial Well-Being Hub.
