About SuperReturn Africa Awards

The SuperReturn Africa Awards, in partnership with Preqin and EY Strategy and Transactions Sustainability, are an opportunity for the investment community to come together over networking drinks, take stock of the year and celebrate the leaps forward we are making in the field of private capital in Africa.

Award categories are:

  1. Pan-African fund manager of the year
  2. North African fund manager of the year
  3. East African fund manager of the year
  4. South African fund manager of the year
  5. West African fund manager of the year
  6. Central African fund manager of the year (Open to nominations). Deadline to submit pitch: 3 November.
  7. Emerging Manager of the year
  8. VC fund manager of the year
  9. Best ESG fund of the year (Open to nominations)
  10. Best female fund manager of the year (Open to nominations)
  11. Outstanding contribution to private capital (Open to nominations)

Selection process and timeline

SuperReturn Africa is proud to announce the return of our GP Awards Ceremony! Join us on 5 December at the offsite networking drinks reception to celebrate the achievements of some of Africa’s best fund managers.

W/C 2 October 2023: The shortlist will be announced and nominees will submit their 500-word pitch. Deadline: 3 October 2023.

W/C 9 October 2023: Pitches to be reviewed by the judges. 

W/C 23 October 2023: Judges cast their votes, and the winners will be announced at the ceremony

Best ESG Fund of the Year

Submissions are now closed.

In partnership with EY Strategy and Transactions Sustainability.

Open to all funds generating a positive measurable social and environmental impact alongside a financial return. The judges are looking for submissions that can illustrate how the ESG practices of firms and companies have progressed over time, in addition to examples of best practice.


Outstanding Contribution to Private Capital

Submissions are now closed.

This award is open to the market captains. The industry pioneers who have showcased innovative strategies, successful deals, thought leadership and made a significant impact on the growth and development of private capital in Africa.

Central African Fund Manager of the Year

Submissions are now closed.

In partnership with CAMPEA

This category recognises the investment activity, performance, success and track record of Central Africa based GP firms investing in local companies and projects, as well as fund managers from outside of the continent focusing on the region. It notes the success in fundraising, new deals and exits, as well as the overall evolution of the firm from 2021-2023.

N.B. Due to a lack of market data for this region, this category is open to nominations.

2X Global Woman Fund Manager of the Year 2023

In partnership with 2X Global.

This award is for the talented women at a senior level who have made their mark on the African continent. The judges will consider top investment strategies, risk management skills, consistency in delivering returns and industry recognition. As well as this, this category recognises overall fund performance, experience and expertise, leadership qualities, innovation, and unique contributions to the investment community in Africa. Finally, the judges are looking for someone who has made distinct improvements in gender equity via their investment strategies.
