Sustainability at BIO-Europe
EBD Group is committed to running events which are both environmentally sustainable and socially responsible. Learn more about our sustainability efforts and the steps you can take to make a difference below.
Proud supporter of Action Medical Research
At BIO-Europe, EBD Group donated 1 euro for every 20 partneringONE meeting request responses during the event to Action Medical Research.
Action Medical Research is the leading UK-wide charity dedicated to saving and changing children’s lives through medical research.
They fund a wide range of cutting-edge research most likely to deliver real benefit to babies, children and young people. With your help, they can raise funds to make vital research possible. Thousands of families are coping with the challenge of caring for children with rare and devastating diseases for which there are no cures.
Action is working to develop treatments to tackle rare diseases that together affect so many forgotten children.
Turn partnering into research resources and help us support the patients for whom we are all working.
This year we donated over €7000! Thank you for supporting this amazing cause with your partnering activity!

Initiatives onsite
At EBD Group we believe that running all of our events responsibly, with consideration for the sustainability of our markets and our industry, can help us deliver better events, better business and a better world.
Better Stands Program
As per our commitment to the evolution of the exhibition industry, we are moving away from the use of disposable, single-use stands which account for vast percentages of the waste generated at events. We ask exhibitors to follow our Better Stands program and thus improve the ease, quality, safety and sustainability of the exhibition experience for all delegates. We also encourage them to minimize handouts and collateral brought or shipped to the event.

At the venue
Stockholmsmässan is working in line with the UN’s 2030 Agenda on Sustainable Development Goals with a focus on social, environmental and business sustainability.
It is an ISO20121 certified venue. Electricity at the venue is coming from 100% renewable resources.
Food and Beverage
We aim to offer a delicious, healthy and sustainable menu to our delegates. Together with a local caterer, we work on an offering that is as seasonal and as regional as possible, with many plant-based options, planning our order amounts precisely to avoid prepared food being wasted. Any surplus food and waste that is being generated during food production, will be used to produce biogas for municipal transportation in Stockholm.
Chinaware and cutlery will be available and in case of disposables, we have switched to fully biodegradable materials.
Encouraging Public Transport
We encourage delegates during their attendance to use public transport for their travel and work closely with local authorities to provide easy access to the local networks.

Printed Materials
BIO-Europe will be delivered in a 100% digital format, which means that no paper products will be used onsite. We will have QR codes in several locations that can be easily scanned to pull up information.
This includes the event floor plan, promotional materials, session information, partnering and presentation schedules and any other relevant documentation.
Lanyards and Name Badges
Paper-only name badges without plastic holders will be administered at the event.
Furthermore, lanyards will be collected and fully recycled post-event. We do encourage all attendees to place their lanyards post event to the recycling boxes at the entrance of the Exhibition Centre.
Wellness Onsite
Wellbeing is important to us and apart from our external activities, we will also have wellbeing lounges at the venue, offering massages, to restore your energy between partnering meetings. Break & Breathe sessions will also be organized throughout the conference to offer delegates time to re-focus for their next activity.
A silent space will also be provided for moments of reflection and prayer.
Agenda Sessions
We aim to contribute to a sustainable Biotech industry through our initiatives.
This is through our content, speaker diversity and opportunities for young companies, either through company presentations of all levels, geo and sizes, as well as startups through our Startup Spotlight competition.
Sip, Refill, Repeat!
Thermo Fisher Scientific is pleased to sponsor the water refill stations at BIO-Europe 2024.
At Thermo Fisher Scientific we take our role as market leader for quality plastic labware very seriously. Through the usage of environmentally friendly materials, and the lightweight sustainable Nalgene water bottles, we are helping to quench the thirst of millions and protect our natural home.
This year we encourage all of you to bring your own bottle and let’s all together commit to reduce waste from our landfills and oceans.

DIVERSITY, EQUITY AND INCLUSION AT BIO-Europe
Our mission is to give our colleagues, the markets we serve, and our wider communities access to extraordinary people and diverse insights.
Through our live and data-driven digital services, we cultivate connections, provide meaningful content, and celebrate authenticity. We strive to create a safe and transparent environment where unique perspectives and all ideas can be shared and acknowledged.
We believe in sustainability and continuous learning as it strengthens our people, our products, and our markets. In order to be more, we must do more. Together, we will continue to listen, innovate, and act as a driver of change to build a business that reflects the communities we connect.
HOW ARE WE BUILDING A SUSTAINABLE EVENT?
We believe a sustainable event focuses on three main aspects...
Social Responsibility
We want to run BIO-Europe in a socially responsible manner. To do so, we are focusing on:
- Doing business safely and ethically
- Considering wellbeing and accessibility
- Creating a positive impact on our host cities and measuring those impacts
- Supporting local charities
Environmental Responsibility
BIO-Europe will be run in an increasingly environmentally responsible manner, focusing on:
- Reducing carbon emissions
- Designing our events to eliminate waste
- Considering sustainability credentials for every item sourced for the event
Sustainable Development
Our aim for BIO-Europe is to promote long-term sustainable development — not only in the way we run the event, but also for the market in which we operate, committing to:
- Using our content to support the sustainability of the biotech industry
- Developing close partnerships with relevant charities, companies and associations, and giving them a platform to promote their work in the field
- Facilitating discussions on pertinent topics including: diversity & inclusion, gender balance, sustainability trends, the industry's impact on the environment and more
- Improving access to our events for young companies and the next generation of biotech leaders
FASTERFORWARD TO ZERO
FasterForward is BIO-Europe's approach to sustainability — moving faster to become a zero waste and net zero carbon business.
A series of activities and commitments carried out by Informa and its partners between 2020-2025 will ensure our events continue to become more sustainable, delivering a truly positive impact to the markets we serve. We will also actively help our partners, customers, and wider markets to achieve the same. Our FasterForward commitments include:
- Enable one million disconnected people to access networks and knowledge by 2025
- Become carbon neutral across our events by 2025
- Halve the waste generated through our events by 2025
- Embed sustainability inside 100% of our events by 2025
