Profile

Eng.Wael has 19 years’ experience in the gas Industry. He started his career as a gas engineer in 2004 at Petrobel company (one of Eni's joint ventures in Egypt), and held several roles from field operations to production planning until held the position of production department manager.


Since 2013, he was appointed as gas industries expert at the Organization of Arab Petroleum Exporting Countries (OAPEC), a regional IGO based in the State of Kuwait. He acts as the chief gas officer who is responsible for developing and reflecting OAPEC views and insights on hydrogen as well as the gas, LNG and hydrogen developments in the MENA region and globally and promoting them internationally. He actively takes part in the activities of the United Nations Economic commission for Europe’s Group of Experts on Gas to examine the critical role of natural gas in attaining SDGs.
Eng.Wael is actively engaged in regional and global discussions and fora on synergies between natural gas, renewable energy and energy efficiency, role of hydrogen in the energy transition and ways to promote sustainable production and consumption of natural gas and LNG worldwide. He has received several global awards and honours for his achievements and contribution to the development of the gas sector.


Eng.Wael holds a MSc degree (with honours) in Petroleum Engineering from Politecnico di Torino in Italy and a BSc degree (with honours) in chemical engineering & petroleum refining. Recently, he obtained a MBA diploma in Project Management.
