Dr John Mills
Senior Reservoir Engineering Consultant at Oil & Gas Industry Expert


Dr. John Mills is a Senior Reservoir Advisor from the Oil and Gas industry with international experience living in the USA, UK, Brazil and Bahrain. He is passionate about technology development, education and methods to meet the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. He has subject matter expertise in Carbon Sequestration and Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) and is currently working as a consultant at Tullow Oil in London, U.K.

Dr. Mills started his industry career as an EOR Research Engineer in the U.K. where he also spent two years gaining public policy experience as an independent member of two Cross-Party Groups in Scottish Parliament on Higher Education and Renewable Energy. He joined BP in Houston, USA as a Reservoir Engineer on its operated assets and also supported the BP Venture Capital team as a subject matter expert. He co-chaired the Chevron ‘DeepStar’ Reservoir Committee JIP developing new technologies for major capital projects. He was most recently based in the Kingdom of Bahrain as a Senior Reservoir Advisor to Tatweer Petroleum.

He is an active member of the technical review board of the Society of Core Analysts, Editor of the International Journal of Wettability Science and Technology and an authorized technical reviewer for the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE). He has been invited multiple times as a Ph.D. panel member for the SPE Student Paper contests around the world.

He holds a Ph.D. in Petroleum Engineering and an M.Sc. in Reservoir Evaluation and Management from Heriot-Watt University, U.K., and was awarded the SPE STARS Research Fellowship for the North Sea Region. He holds an Executive MBA from the Quantic School of Business and Technology and a B.Sc. in Geology and Physical Geography from the University of Manchester. He is a Fellow of the Geological Society of London and has been a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) for 15 years.
