Understand how to apply today's novel modeling and high throughput screening tools are used as part of chromatography process development workflows in both early and late stages
Register your team to attend this expert-led live online training course to understand the chromatography fundamentals for biologics process development
Chromatography Fundamentals for Biologics Process Development starts today!
Thank you Attending Chromatography Fundamentals for Biologics Process Development!
Course Overview
This course will provide a guide for preparative chromatographic separations. An overview of different separation modalities (affinity, ion exchange, hydrophobic interaction, multimodal) and modes of separation (flowthrough, bind-and-elute, displacement) will be covered. Additionally, more specific discussions will explain how modeling and high throughput screening tools are used as part of chromatography process development workflows in both early and late stages. Relevant examples and case studies from recent publications will highlight current challenges and best practices. All attendees will receive electronic copies of materials and references presented as part of the course.
Meet Your Course Instructor
John Welsh offers bioprocess consulting services through Rivanna Bioprocess Solutions LLC. This includes process development and CMC support for biotechnology start-ups as well as providing expertise around downstream separations, high throughput chromatography screening techniques, and modeling approaches.
Prior to consulting, John worked at Merck & Co., Inc. for over eleven years in downstream bioprocessing R&D. He served as purification and overall CMC lead for a number of pipeline programs. This included five IND filings and four late stage programs. He also headed a high throughput screening and automation lab and helped establish Merck’s mechanistic modeling capabilities.
John has a Bachelor of Engineering from Dartmouth College (2004) and a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from Stanford University (2011). He also briefly worked at GlycoFi, Inc. which was acquired by Merck in 2006. He is a co-author on more than twenty peer-reviewed publications and has served as a session chair for AIChE, ACS BIOT, and HTPD conferences as well as a co-organizer of the Recovery Modeling Workshop series. John has also previously been a guest lecturer at Rutgers University and the University of Virginia on the topics of chromatography screening and bioprocess scaling.
