Shaw’s Vice President of Sustainability Tim Conway will lead a discussion with three designers on shifting trends and increasing demand for spaces that support and promote occupant wellbeing. Lisa Adams, associate principal and senior vice president at HKS, Lydia Brown, interior designer at Boulder Associates, and Yure Suarez, sustainable building advisor at Perkins + Will, will provide their perspectives on the various certification programs and tools that they use to find products that meet the health, safety and functionality requirements of their customers.

Session 3: Biophilia and Interior Design

What is biophilia and why our connection to nature is so important in these times, and the therapeutic benefits for our wellbeing and our built environments. I will provide an overview of biophilic principles and how to apply them into your design methodology for interior spaces. I will showcase examples of spatial properties, materials, and case studies to inspire and move toward a gaia-inspired worldview on how we approach interior design now and into the future. I will talk about the connection of biophilia and IEQ (indoor environmental quality), how to achieve biophilic design within the latest green building certifications and will finish with inspiration on the future of biophilic design.
