A.B. Jones Co.

Expanding upon our partnership from 2021 with A.B. Jones and Co.,  a social venture that centers around fork to farm sustainability to enhance Southern California soils and provide economic and environmental benefits to the community. A.B. Jones also has operations in the Bay Area working with wine growers in the napa valley to provide soil amendments from composting and vermiculture (worm farms!) and local non profit groups to get food healthy fresh food to those in need.

About A.B. Jones and CO.

Andre and his team of staff and amazing volunteers work with green waste producers such as Restaurants, Grocery Stores, and Donors to collect fresh food items that would otherwise end up in the landfill. Food items could be pre-or post-consumer compost, Fresh fruits, and veggies that don’t look right to be sold, or excess fruit and veg that needs to be eaten ASAP or it will go bad.

Edible ready fruit and veg are packaged into family food boxes by volunteers (shelf-stable goods are added) and provided, free for people in need at several pick-up locations throughout the Bay Area area.

Food Box Preparation

If donated food is too ripe for human consumption it goes to one of three places. The initial priority is animal feed for local farmers or to animals in livestock programs raised by kids in Future Farmers of America.

FOOD BOX PEPARATION– Hands on activation

Attendees can participate in creating their own food boxes to support the local community in need.  AB Jones will be bringing 3-4 pallets of food (fresh food along with packaged food)

  • attendees will help by unloading the pallets and setting things up on tables
  • Then create their own food boxes on a separate table that includes fresh items and shelf stable goods.
  • Roughly 10-15 people could create 100-150 boxes in an hour
  • TIMING – This can be done in shifts so more people can participate.
